New furniture checklist: Plan ahead for your KING Showroom visit

Discovering the latest designs and exploring your options in a KING Showroom is an exciting step in your furniture journey.

With so many furniture designs, materials and colours to choose from, as well as lifestyle and space considerations, it can help to be prepared.

KING Showrooms currently operate across seven countries and growing, and experience has shown that our customers who come prepared find it easier to make a confident purchasing decision.

To help you plan what will best suit you, we have created a furniture checklist with the most important things to consider before visiting your nearest KING Showroom.

1. Find Inspiration

When it comes to furniture there is an endless array of styles and sizes to choose from.

Doing some research helps you discover the designs you are most drawn and narrow down the range of options.

Browsing interior design websites, finding ideas on Instagram and pining your favourite designs on Pinterest is a simple way to create a mood board and work out what inspire you.

Bring in photos or keep a selection of images saved on your phone and show us the furniture designs you love helps our team get a clear idea about the look you want to achieve.

Don’t worry if you don’t have one style you like or if you are drawn to elements of different styles. You can take different design elements from multiple sources and create your own unique style.

2. Check living space dimensions

Understanding the space you have to work with is one of the first questions the KING Showroom team will ask. Your furniture should fit comfortably, leaving ample space for movement to occur around it.

Our furniture designs, particularly sofas, come in an extensive range of sizes and package options.

Taking measurements before visiting your nearest Showroom saves time and will help you to narrow down your options.

It is highly recommended to measure the width of your doorway frame, lift access and stairwells as well as the dimensions of the room.

3. Bring floor plans, photos, samples and swatches

Floor plans and photos help us understand your space and decide which designs will suit your home.

During your Showroom consultation, we can upload your floor plans into our space planner software and show you how the furniture will fit in your space.

If your buying new furniture to complement existing designs in your home, bring photos of these too – seeing your floor, wall, and existing furniture colour palette will help the Showroom team guide you.

Even bring in paint swatches and samples – this is particularly helpful if you are renovating and have a new colour palette in mind.

Colour is very personal and also influences mood. Choosing your fabrics, leathers, wood and metal finishes is one of the most important steps in your furniture journey. It is worth keeping in mind that darker colours can make a room appear smaller, and lighter colours can create the illusion of more space.

When it comes to colour, a great starting point is to look for inspiration in colours around your home, and even in your wardrobe to help you pick your colour palette.

4. Know lifestyle requirements

Our Showroom team will always talk through what you are looking for and help you choose the best furniture for your lifestyle. But thinking about what you need in advance can help you get a clear picture in your mind and ensure you come home with furniture that best suits your needs. There are a few key areas worth considering in advance.

Storage solutions
Many of our products include built-on or the option to build-in storage. This can be important for apartment living, where choosing items that serve more than one purpose and offer storage can make a big difference. Sofas with built in storage can also serve as a place to easily tidy away items like blankets and children's toys.

Modular design
For some of our customers lifestyles, a modular design is a significant advantage and helps them to get the most out of their furniture. Modularity can help ‘future proof’ furniture when your tastes or preferences change or your family grows. Whether you need to move your chaise from left to right or expand the size of your sofa setting to accommodate more seating, you have options.

Fabric vs leather
There is no wrong answer when it comes to deciding between a leather or fabric sofa. However, each material comes with pros and cons. The most important considerations are durability, care requirements, appearance, and comfort. Our leather vs fabric guide can help you to decide which option will suit you best. The right material for you will be one that you love which also suits your lifestyle.

5. Lead times

Like all retailers, the global pandemic has had unprecedented impacts on our supply chain, causing worldwide shipping delays.

For many customers, the priority is finding furniture they love. However, if you need your items urgently, we offer a range of in-stock items ready to ship. In-stock items don’t offer extra customisation and are best for those looking for a fast delivery option.

Our team can talk with you about the lead times for each individual product.
