London-based designer Luke Arthur Wells styles his 1977 Sofa in Leura Linen. In a scheme this pared-back, he says the fabric is what brings the room to life.

"When you're looking at a more refined palette, texture is important. King’s Leura fabric is always going to be timeless. The bouclé brings so much depth and interest."

But for Luke, timeless doesn’t mean traditional. “It’s about mixing eras. The sofa’s soft, curved silhouette is a fresh take on the shapes of iconic seventies designs that I love. Styled in my Victorian terrace, that contrast of styles is exactly what I'm after."

And it all comes back to how the room feels. "Warm, comforting, atmospheric. As it's a small space, I love colour drenching it, and the Linen colourway is a near perfect match for my walls."

Three ways to bring this look home

Let texture do the talking

In a pared-back palette, materials matter most. Choose a light, neutral fabric with a tactile feel, so the sofa feels comforting even without colour.
Add one grounding tone

A neutral room can fall flat without an anchor colour. Luke brings drama to one wall with a deep, almost oxblood burgundy artwork he painted himself, in a shade he calls bold but still a neutral. Pick one rich tone and let it hold the room.

How to recreate the space
