The Winter Style Edit

Winter is my favourite time of year. While it’s still warm enough to enjoy the great outdoors, the shorter days and cool nights give us the perfect excuse to light the candles, get the fire going and snuggle in. And if there’s a great glass of red involved, I’m a happy man. Winter is probably when I enjoy my home the most.

While I don’t believe we need to change our homes too much with the arrival of each season, winter certainly gives us permission to add colour and texture – especially the warm, rich, earthy tones that are so popular at the moment. It’s the perfect time to move away from the pastels and neutrals of the warmer months and embrace shades like green, rich brown, terracotta and burnt orange.

Here in the lounge room I’ve used the Uno sofa from King Living. To me it’s a timeless design with those distinctive tufted cushions that give it a mid-century feel. The Uno is at home in any environment - from classic to contemporary – and it’s as versatile as it’s good-looking, converting easily to an ottoman or day bed. The sofa is covered in Manhattan Mink, a luxurious, grey-based neutral that works with almost any colour palette. The Apero coffee and side tables, designed for King Living by Charles Wilson, have a sleek, modern silhouette that partners the Uno perfectly.

In the dining room, ‘new classic’ is how I would describe the elegantly pared-back ETO dining table, designed for King Living by Tom Fereday. I’ve chosen a marble top and timber legs and added armless Quay chairs in a textured grey fabric to create a relaxed look that feels both modern and retro.

And in the bedroom, the Encore bed‘s tufted bedhead partners perfectly with Serenade side tables, topped in Carrara marble. Marble continues to be a favourite choice throughout the home – and with good reason. It blends glamorously with so many other materials, from leather to timber to velvet.

To me, good design is an investment. My advice is to choose furniture that combines design integrity and interest with comfort and longevity. There’s nothing dull about a classic. Think of classic design as the canvas upon which you start to layer your individual style. The beauty of King Living furniture is its simplicity and flexibility. It’s furniture for living, but it’s also yours for life.
